Cleveland Clinic cancer chief leaving for North Carolina
Derek Raghavan, who leads Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute, is going to Carolinas HealthCare System in April. Cleveland Clinic issued the following statement: “We are grateful to Dr. Raghavan for his contributions to Cleveland Clinic and for his innovative leadership of the Taussig Cancer Institute during his seven-year tenure. Cleveland Clinic extends its best wishes to Dr. Raghavan in his new endeavor.”

Cleveland Clinic researchers seek concussion blood test
A team of Cleveland Clinic researchers, led by Damir Janigro are developing a blood test that can help predict the seriousness of brain injury by detecting the status of the blood-brain barrier.
If a protein (S100B) present only in the brain appears in serum, then the BBB is breached and the patient should be further evaluated.
If measured within four hours of the injury, the S100B test accurately predicts which head injury patients will have a traumatic abnormality on a head CT scan.
