Pager and Horizon BCBSNJ team up to enhance the patient experience

Through the collaboration, the New York City-based startup's technology will assist Horizon members in gaining access to the care they need at the right time.

A new collaboration is bringing together the technology and the insurance sides of healthcare.

New York City-based Pager, a mobile health technology company, is working with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, the state’s largest health insurer.

“What the partnership between Pager and Horizon really involves is delivering a great patient experience to their membership base,” Pager CEO Walter Jin said in a recent phone interview.

As part of the alliance, Pager will make it easier for Horizon members to connect with the right providers via video consultations or scheduled appointments. Via its artificial intelligence-powered interface, Pager assists individuals in navigating the healthcare ecosystem.

Jin added that his company strives to be the “communication engine” that helps direct patients to the appropriate care setting.

The initial phase of the collaboration will begin later this year among a selected cohort of Horizon members.

Ultimately, Jin noted that success in this endeavor will mean that Horizon’s members are satisfied with their care.

“What we want to do is drive utilization that is appropriate for you,” he said. “We are powering telemedicine, we are powering e-prescriptions — all these great virtual solutions that have come up in recent years.”

This new undertaking is only one piece of the puzzle as far as what Pager’s been up to recently.

Last year, the startup inked a deal with Baylor Scott & White Health Medicine to expand its services to Texas. In January, Jin took over the CEO role after Gaspard de Dreuzy (one of the company’s cofounders) stepped down and became president.

“Horizon is on the forefront of payers investing in superior member experience and it is leading the transformation of healthcare in New Jersey through the OMNIA Alliance,” de Dreuzy said of the collaboration in a news release. “Pager will be focused on helping drive this vision, ultimately increasing member satisfaction while lowering the costs of care.”
