Special guest Dr. Wen Dombrowski joined Meghana Keshavan, Stephanie Baum and Chris Seper to discuss the interest of clinicians into entrepreneurship for this week’s MedHeads, as well as giving their opinions on the biggest news of the week.
Watch the broadcast above, but also review five important topics we looked at this week.
1. Denver to open massive digital health center
A developer and a healthcare entrepreneur are planning a 300,000-square-foot digital health center in Denver, in hopes of making Colorado America’s “digital health capital,” according to the Denver Post.
2. Digital health business ZocDoc is latest tech co. to get slammed for tolerating sexist culture
Physician finder and scheduling business ZocDoc was the subject of a blistering story by Business Insider in which former employees ripped the New York health IT company — one described the business as being run like a “frat house” where sexism and drugs were tolerated.
3. Smartphone-based behavioral health program cuts ER use in Ind., Tenn. Medicaid populations
Combine case management, wellness coaching and smartphones with the proper apps and make a real difference in patient quality of life and hospital utilization. That was experience in CoactionHealth, a collaboration between Nashville, Tenn.-based behavioral health services provider Centerstone, mental health app-maker Ginger.io and telecommunications giant Verizon.
MediSafe users will be able to import their medication lists from thousands of hospitals and medical facilities through Human API’s platform.
“This is a fabulous, fabulous day,” said Dr. Irwin Goldstein, president of the San Diego-based Institute for Sexual Medicine. “8-18-2015: A nuclear bomb has exploded in women’s sexual health.”
He’s referring, of course, to the Food and Drug Administration’s spanking-new approval of Addyi, a new drug that’s actually the first sanctioned treatment for women’s sexual dysfunction.
