HCA plans to sell PatientKeeper, which makes physician workflow software, to health IT startup Commure. The hospital chain will get a minority stake in the combined company.

Report: Hospital margins down 96% since the start of 2020
A report by Kaufman Hall showed that while hospitals’ operating margins improved in July, they were down 96% since the start of the year. Including funding allocated through the CARES Act. Without CARES Act funding, hospital margins were still down 28%.

Lawsuit accuses HCA of failing to protect healthcare workers during pandemic
After four Riverside Community Hospital employees contracted Covid-19, they and their families sued HCA for failing to provide adequate protections. The plaintiffs said they were not given adequate access to PPE, not warned when they might have been exposed to Covid-19, and were encouraged to come back to work, even when they still had Covid-19 symptoms.

HCA nurses say they face layoffs if they don’t give up negotiated pay increases
HCA nurses protested last week, saying the hospital chain is threatening layoffs and wage freezes. HCA said it is asking nurses to forego planned wage increases and it has no plans for layoffs.

HCA says hardware storage glitch behind EHR outage
An HCA spokesman said the issue primarily impacted its Florida facilities. HCA manages about 50 hospitals and 37 surgical centers in the state, according to its website.
