CodaMetrix, an AI platform for hospital revenue cycle management, recently closed a $55 million Series A funding round. The company, which was launched out of Mass General Brigham in 2019, is focused on simplifying the complicated process of translating patient records into codes for billing and clinical research.

Health maintenance is in some ways overmedicalized in the U.S., according to executives at two major health systems. Treatments and procedures aren’t the only ways to support patients’ health — the leaders said that providers would be wise to invest more in social services to improve health outcomes.

InStride Health — a virtual care provider for pediatric patients with moderate to severe anxiety and OCD — recently launched with $26 million in funding. The startup delivers insurance-covered pediatric mental health treatment using a care model developed by two of its co-founders, who are Mass General Brigham clinicians.

There is a dearth of professionals with licenses and training to provide care for seniors’ mental and behavioral health challenges — such as Alzheimer’s and other dementias, anxiety and depression. Seattle-based Rippl Care is seeking to change this. The startup just closed a $32 million seed funding round led by ARCH Venture Partners and General Catalyst.

Cell and gene therapy research has been hot the past few years but the overall market has cooled down in recent months. During the World Medical Innovation Forum in Boston, a panel of venture capitalists discussed capital formation and what biotech firms need to do to win over investors and advance their research.

Massachusetts’ 11-member Health Policy Commission unanimously concluded that the expansions would drive up spending for commercially insured residents by as much as $90 million a year and boost health insurance premiums.

As health systems pivot to virtual and at-home care, Mass General Brigham is continuing to invest in brick-and-mortar facilities as CEO Dr. Anne Klibanski believes there will always be a need for inpatient care. Called the Innovator Community Expansion Initiative, the main goal of the effort is to pinpoint and remove obstacles keeping underrepresented groups, like women, out of the innovation process. The initiative will promote networking and education about the path to commercialization.

The hospitals that were found to be fully compliant with the federal price transparency rule had a few strategies in common, including picking the right technology partner and beginning their efforts early — in some cases before the rule was even proposed.
